The Glen in Glen Allan does not actually refer to a persons name from the Allan family.
Glen is defined as - a secluded narrow valley or dale; depression between hills, comes from Gaelic. ‘Glen’ is a Scottish Term.
"In 1971 Sherwood Properties bought the remainder of the farm for a housing project, which it named "The Glen Allan" subdivision in Sherwood Park." (Ardrossan Unifarm: Cherished Memories (n.d.) p. 364)
MaryAnn remembers buying her home in the newly developed Glen Allan neighbourhood in 1972.
" We walked up a plank to view this home. We both lived with parents who'd always had bungalows! Wow a home on multi-levels! No rumpus room in the basement but a family room! That one could view people from the kitchen. Two bathrooms too, heaven indeed."
Bob Newstead recalls "when we first looked at houses in Glen Allan in Sept. 1972, the builders (Nu West, Perry, Engineered, Qualico, McLaughlan - Mitchell et al) were asking around $35,000. There were only a few show homes in the vicinity of Gatewood Blvd. and Georgian Way."
