【Overveiw】
The Laboratory of Fisheries Economics conducts research and education from the perspective of resource economics on the problems unique to fisheries caused by the finiteness and uncertainty of fishery resources and the diverse interests of organizations involved in fisheries.
【Research Theme】
we are researching the improvement of fishermen's profits based on the relationship between the amount of reproduction of fishery resources and the amount of fishing effort. In order to improve profits, it is necessary to address problems such as changes in supply due to the depletion of fishery resources, changes in consumer preferences, and the added value of marine products created by the uniqueness of the fishing grounds and aquacultural method. In addition, in the high seas where free fishing without permission, it is necessary to address problems such as externalities caused by the interests of Japan and foreign governments, fishing-related organizations, and quota systems. Our laboratory is investigating the above issues using resource economics and econometric methods.
【Current Research Projects】
1) Research on the effects of introducing new technologies
Evaluation of the social acceptability of aquatic products using gene editing technology
Feasibility of insect powder-based feed, etc.
2) Research on the management of fishery resources
Environmental impact assessment of fisheries using primary production requirements
3) Research on contributing to the improvement of fishery management
Optimization of resource allocation in integrated aquaculture operations
Evaluation of the added value of aquatic products, etc.
