Located at 100 Armory Court in Jackson is Michigan's First State Prison. Now a residential complex called Armory Arts Village, the old prison began in 1838 and was the world's largest walled prison by 1882. There are plenty of stories about inmates, guards, escapes, and punishments within these walls. Residents of the property have reported numerous paranormal experiences in the old prison.
Judy Krasnow, author and former resident of Armory Arts Village, recalls feeling strange energies and interacting with spirits during her time living on prison property in her book Jacktown: History & Hard Times at Michigan's First State Prison.
Judy also tells the story of a encounter she had with a crow that may have been tied to a former prisoner.
