2021 Labor Day

Book Sale

IS

HYBRID!!!

The 2021 Labor Day Book Sale was a big success, raising over $6500 for the Greenbelt Elementary PTA. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered!

The information below was for the 2021 sale; stay tuned for information about 2022 :-).

The Greenbelt Elementary PTA's beloved Labor Day Book Sale is ON in a hybrid format! Read on for information about 1) the Labor Day Festival sale, 2) the neighborhood yard book sales, and 3) how to donate books.

**We are looking for more volunteers for the committee. Please reach out to us by email if you can help.**

1) Labor Day Festival (Roosevelt Center)

We will have some books and tables in Roosevelt Center at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival, though not in our previous glory. Our categories will be fiction, nonfiction, and children's books, and our prices are $1 for paperbacks and $2 for hardcovers. Hours for our Roosevelt Center sale will be:

  • Friday, September 3, from 4-8pm.

  • Saturday, September 4, from noon-7pm.

  • Sunday, September 5, Rain date, no sales unless Saturday is rained out. (Check here for an announcement.)

  • Monday, September 6, from noon-6pm. (FREE DAY! Donations appreciated.)

(Please note that the Book Sale may close due to rain.)

2) Neighborhood Yard Book Sales (Book Walk around Greenbelt)

Like last year, we are coordinating a number of neighborhood yard book sales at homes throughout our community.

Saturday, September 4, from 10 am - 5 pm

(If the forecast calls for rain most of the day, then Sunday, September 5 will be the rain date. Check here for an announcement by 9am on Saturday.)

Book "sellers":

  • If you'd like to "sell" books that are taking up space on your bookshelf, you can place them on a table or blanket in your yard. (Please include a hand sanitizer dispenser if possible.) You do not need to be outside with the books, simply place them outside and rely on the good nature of your neighbors.

  • We ask that you let us know if you'd like to host a book sale by filling out this form by Sept. 1. We will plot your location on a map that is available to the public.

  • Download and print a flyer that you can post next to your books encouraging visitors to donate to the GES PTA via Paypal or credit card. (No cash transactions, please.) We will be able to drop off a flyer to you if you email greenbeltespta@gmail.com.

  • You can optionally merge with neighbors to put more books together in one yard, and asking for book donations from friends may also be helpful.

Book seekers:

  • Book seekers can drive, bike, or walk to homes throughout Greenbelt to select books from volunteer book “sellers.” No payment will be exchanged - all are welcome to choose books for free.

  • We do hope that you will make an online donation at https://tinyurl.com/gesptapaypal. Normally, we charge $1 for paperbacks and $2 for hardbacks, but any donation is appreciated!

3) Book Donation Drop Off

Monday afternoon, September 6

We have coordinated with Nelson, our trusty leftover book buyer of many years, to arrange an opportunity for the community to directly donate books at the end of the sale.

  • On Monday, you are welcome to deliver any books you wish to donate to the GES PTA table at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival.

  • The PTA will receive $1 for each full box that we donate (Nelson's standard rate). PTA volunteers will be at the donation drop-off location and can help box books if you don't have a full box.

  • Please wear a mask.

  • CDs, DVDs, and LPs WILL be accepted.

  • No encyclopedias, textbooks, or games will be accepted.

  • We are unable to pick up books from homes this year and ask that you bring them to the drop-off location yourself. We hope to bring back this service next year!
