Timeline of the Topography of Riverside Ave

Starting in the 1930's the geomorphology of riverside avenue started to change. it was around this time roughly 1937 when the area was approved by the state of Vermont to be developed into a residential area. In 1955 there were repeated landslides in the area, each landslide building on the next in level of intensity. The last of the landslides causing major damages to the road. In 1962 the ravine in the lower right quadrant of the area was filled in order to build residential housing on top of it.

In 1968 a massive landslide almost wiped out riverside avenue. In August of 1972 optical survey showed that the sides of the river changed, perhaps a landslide. In 1981 workman illegally deposited waste into the river causing massive landslides in the area. In 1983 workers tried a stone gap method to prevent future slides, however the tree's along the banks were removed, creating stability and drainage problems along the banks of the river. In December of that same year workers began bracing the banks of the river replacing the clay with stone and fill. In 1986 there was further development in the area for residential use.

Most recently halloween night 2019, there was a landslide on riverside avenue from the heavy rain.
