Climate change, according to the United Nations (UN), is “the defining issue of our time and we are at a defining moment. From shifting weather patterns that threaten food production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk of catastrophic flooding, the impacts of climate change are global in scope and unprecedented in scale.”
Climate change is caused by the increase of greenhouse gasses in the Earth’s atmosphere. Although greenhouse gasses occur naturally and are crucial for life on Earth, since they are good absorbers of the sun’s light, which keep the Earth warm, the number of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere has been rising and breaking records.
This is crucial because according to the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS), “climate affects nearly every aspect of our lives, from our food sources to our transport infrastructure, from what clothes we wear, to where we go on holiday. It has a huge effect on our livelihoods, our health, and our future.”
What we can do is to understand the importance of climate change and how we can prepare for the future. We can try to reduce activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels, that release greenhouse gasses.

In developing countries, women make up roughly 43% of the agricultural labor force. According to the UN, if women have the same access to resources as males, they may boost agricultural yields by 20 to 30 percent, contributing to a reduction in world hunger of 12 to 17 percent while also increasing total agricultural output in these nations by 2.5 to 4%. This can help with climate adaptation in two ways: proper technology or resources contribute to more sustainable farming and conservation, and poverty reduction allows people to better adjust to climate change.
Investing in women and girls has far-reaching consequences that affect entire communities and countries. According to "womendeliver.org", countries with a large female representation in parliament are likely to adopt global environmental treaties.
The cornerstone of human life is a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. However, today, the triple planetary crises of climate change, pollution, and nature loss are directly and severely affecting a wide range of rights, including the rights to adequate food, water, education, housing, health, development, and even life itself, as a result of human action – and inhuman inaction.
