The University Honors Program was one of the factors that drove me to choose to come to the University of Cincinnati and I saw a potential for growth and learning for myself both professionally and academically. As a first-year in pre-med, I wanted to become more immersed in leadership and innovation as I continue to become more confident in my interpersonal skills and step out of my comfort zone. In becoming a first-year ambassador for the University Honors Program, I was able to become involved in a leadership role and explore and learn more about myself and the program overall. Despite the nervousness and uncertainty with entering college, I was thrilled to have been accepted into the program and the leadership role of being an ambassador.
Reflecting upon my time as an ambassador, I've truly enjoyed my time in the role from the retreat to the social events and presentational events, I feel that I’ve had the chance to meet and build a community of people who are truly sincere and absolutely wonderful to work with. I’ve also developed a deep respect for the program and the opportunities and connections that are offered to enrich the learning of students and invest in their curiosity. I hope to continue my involvement in advancing the interests of the program and promote the wide variety of experiences it offers.
Considering what I've gained from the program, including the community of students, advisors, staff, and a network of opportunities to supplement my academic journey, I chose to become a part of the leadership team to make a greater impact in promoting the values of UHP. In applying as a Development Director, I was hoping to to utilize the skills that I’ve grown and built upon throughout my time as an ambassador to be a successful leader who is resilient and passionate about the ideals of the program through encouraging and supporting my fellow ambassadors.
Throughout my role, I've had the opportunity to work behind the scenes and really see my work and collaboration be put into practice. I feel very grateful and find it very rewarding to realize that my contributions are able to make an impact on others, even in the smallest ways whether that is through the crafting the certification process for all ambassadors, or through the personal mentorship meetings with the first-years. I also feel that I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the program itself, and have grown a deeper appreciation of the time and detailed planning that goes into prepping the various informational events. What I really appreciate and find unique is the openness to feedback and change as the program continues to evolve and embody a variety of interests. There are always continuous improvements being made in terms of the structure of the program, and I hope to contribute to making changes and continue to implement and build upon the goals of the program.
Being able to have a more inclusive and influential role as an honors ambassador allowed me to be a representative student voice and provide my own perspective and input which was truly amazing to see being implemented and given support and value to. Throughout this past year, despite some of the unforeseen circumstances that have impacted different policies and processes, I’ve truly enjoyed my time as an ambassador, starting from the retreat to the social and presentation events, I feel that I’ve had the chance to work with students who are so passionate in their beliefs and areas of study which was also very inspiring for me as well. I’ve also continued to develop a deep respect for the program and the opportunities and connections that are offered to enrich the learning of students and invest in their curiosity.
Looking back, I truly enjoyed my time on the Leadership Team and working with my fellow team members who each had their own unique talents and perspectives to bring to the table. Additionally, I am very grateful to the staff support from both Christina and Vicky who encouraged our ideas and always brought a positive mindset to our discussions.
As a member of the leadership for the upcoming year, I am excited for a chance to continue to make a greater impact in promoting the values of UHP and garner student interest in pursuing a journey through honors. I hope to also contribute to the outreach efforts of the program and support student involvement as a way to give back to the overall program and the people whose involvements make it possible.
