German Club

About Us

The Guilford College German Club aims to provide all community members with a view into German culture, which includes language, politics, art, music, social issues, holidays, travel, food etc. The club will promote these things through inclusion of students, alumni, and Greensboro/surrounding community members in events such as movie nights, special holiday celebrations, sharing cultural food, hiking, group sports/games, and supporting other campus activities through participation and collaboration. In particular, cooperation with other modern languages within the College’s Modern Language Studies Department to host multi-cultural events for the campus and greater community will foster deeper understanding of how German culture fits into the global community as well as how it relates to individuals of varying identities, nationalities, and social contexts.

Club Values

--Promote cultural awareness and inclusion through the lens of the unique German culture;

--Be inclusive of all people and be a queer and trans-affirming organization;

--Have membership open to all interested members of the Guilford College community;

--Conduct meetings and make decisions in accordance with the Quaker method of consensus, as defined by the Friends’ Council of Education.

Goals for the school year

Plan, organize and host or co-host monthly events, including several smaller events (such as hikes, small cooking events, game nights, singalongs) and one larger event (such as our traditional Weihnachtsmarkt, Filmabend, or Aprilfest) each semester.
