everyone wants pretty girls, they say
NOBODY KNOWS PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES.
NOBODY KNOWS PRETTY GIRLS MAKE GRAVES.
CAN YOU FEEL YOUR HEART BURNING?
Sarrai Avery
19th Sun of the 6th Umbral Moon
Plot 13, 13 Ward, The Goblet
(Firelight Trading Co.)
Adopted daughter of the tycoon patriarch of Firelight Trading Company, Sarrai Avery styles herself an heiress set to inherit the conglomerate on her father's death retirement. A primadonna with a taste for decadence, drama and divinity, she will never turn down an opportunity to go out on the town, party her heart out and meet new people.
Below the surface, however, this socialite has a morbid fascination with death and all its machinations, fearless when faced with the call of the void. Pay no heed to her bone collection.
CAN YOU FEEL THE STRUGGLE WITHIN?
When the dust had long settled from the Garlean invasion of Ala Mhigo, a dying mother passed her newborn babe to a wayward smuggler who promised her refuge away from the tyranny. Knowing not what might become of her daughter, she begged the man might keep them safe until such time as he was able to deliver her to safety, but died in his arms before the dawn.
This was the inciting incident that caused Rexonus Fira'lux, a seasoned criminal, to go clean.
Sarrai is a woman who knows what it's like to come from nothing and inherit everything. Left with little more than a name and the clothes on her back, some of her earliest memories were watching her father try to make ends meet as he traded his services in the dingy streets of Ul'dah. Not content to work for another man, he toiled relentlessly until an ironic stroke of luck (and a healthy dose of his own tenacity) earned him an investor in the form of a wealthy lalafellin vendor he robbed some years prior. Through her patronage, he was able to open the first iteration of Firelight Trading Company — a business priding itself on being a self-sufficient supply line. From collection to production, mobilization and sale, every aspect is handled with efficiency and care.
As the business grew (alongside demands on the patriarch), Sarrai was left increasingly to her own devices. Though Rex was diligent and doting parent, his absences allowed the young miqo'te to cultivate an interest in mortality and the delicate balance between life and death. Fostering an interest in fungi and spores, she became as much at home in decadence as she did in decay; not uncommon to find her in compost picking worms out of the mould. Titling herself a 'witch of rot', she takes pride in her dedication to the cycle of life, death and decomposition — a profession which can be... offputting to some.
Increasingly at odds with wanting to inherit the company and make her father proud (and by extension, proving to herself she can do so), Sarrai exists in a constant state of self-inflicted 'rebellion'. While smart, bright and exceedingly capable, she can be seen immersing herself in the social scenes of Eorzea, entangled in the arms of gods-knows who. She is a woman who knows what she wants and is unafraid of getting it.
These hooks are not comprehensive! Rather, they serve as a springboard for potential interactions based on a few core tropes, backstory info, characterisations, etc. You are more than welcome to message me OOC to hash things out before approaching.
Firelight Trading Company: it's in the motto! "Firelight Trading Company prides itself on being a self-sufficient supply line. From collection to production, mobilization and sale, every aspect is handled with efficiency and care." As Rexonus' sole adopted child (not counting his many strays), Sarrai has been groomed from a young age to inherit the company should she want to, and thus knows much of its inner workings. You'll never find a better source of information on the company, though all decision-making ultimately from her father - and he is not one to delegate. Try her if you dare on any benefits you can add to the company, but be prepared for her brutal honesty if she doesn't like it or you think you can use her to get to her father.
Criminality: Sarrai is no criminal and she will be quick to let you know, but her dabbling's in death and the macabre often have her work adjacently to criminals. She is not afraid of the underbelly and will often contract less savoury folk to help procure legal goods due to the stigmas surrounding them. There's a lot less paperwork that way.
Socialite: Sarrai loves an outing and a chance to party! I am more than happy to skip an awkward introduction and have your character say they saw/met her at some event or another (provided we've had some kind of ooc communication) and she'll happily include them in her circle or vibe with them for a night. She enjoys bringing the 'drama' - in the sense she will not hesitate to plunge herself into any kind of dare, opportunity to embarrass her friends, engage in any competitions, etc. - so it's a gamble how your night is going to go with her.
Spoiled brat: The wealth of Firelight Trading Company opens many pathways to Sarrai, meaning she can do just about anything she wants. She's not beholden to the company, though she craves the kind of influence it provides, and she'll latch onto anything else that will give her a similar thrill.
Death & The Macabre: If your character has any affiliations to death, decay, etc., Sarrai wants to meet you. She wanted to meet you yesterday. She has a voracious appetite for interpretations of death, funeral rights, acquisition of bones/body parts... maybe even necromancy. Just come and chat with her about dead things, she's obsessed.
THE FEAR WITHIN ME IS BEYOND ANYTHING YOUR SOUL CAN MAKE
REXONUX FIRA'LUX
It's her dad (boogie woogie woogie)! You can often hear Sarrai affectionately yelling "Money, please!" in his direction when she feels like being a brat. They have an incredibly close relationship she wouldn't trade for the entire world.
KORET SWAN
Captain of the 'Wolfsbane' and another of Rex's adopted children, Sarrai became best friends with Koret against her will. Though an unlikely friendship, the two come to bat for each other more often than not.
MIHLI MIHGO
A certified drinking buddy and other best friend, it's not uncommon to find these girls together. Especially if Sarrai is making fun of her for her choices in men.
ELANDERVIER AUCLAIR
Until very recently, El was a woman Sarrai knew only in stories. Her recent initiation into Firelight Trading Company has brought the two together (most notably, Sarrai harasses her for magic tutoring and El reluctantly agrees) and she looks up to her as a kind of mentor.

SIYOH MARI
Good for a plate of tasty yakitori, Sarrai enjoys teasing Siyoh for the relationship she has with her father. Though she doesn't see any of Rex's partners as her 'mother', she does appreciate the wisdom Siyoh imbues and often comes to her for advice (even if she doesn't always listen to it).
BLINK VANIRO
There's the women you go to for comfort and the women you go to for raising hell. Blink Vaniro is the latter. Though her relationship with her father can be noted as 'diabolical', Sarrai enjoys Blink's take-no-shit attitude and stalwart protection when she's out on the town. The two are close, even if Blink probably denies it.

YOU CANNOT KILL ME IN A WAY THAT MATTERS
Sarrai is one of my polyamorous characters, thus she engages in romantic/sexual relationships with more than one person. Because this tends to attract certain kinds of people, I've popped some quick rules as to how this works if you'd like to pursue this kind of relationship with her.
I. Sarrai is pansexual with no gender preference. As long as there is chemistry between her and your character, and they express a desire for her, she's probably interested. However, I have to stress that chemistry is a must. I will not roleplay a relationship just because it's in her nature to find a variety of people attractive.
II. She will never be monogamous, please don't push this on her. If I find you're needlessly jealous of the other people I'm roleplaying with, or you're pushing for Sarrai to commit to just your character, I'll eject from the pairing. The only time she's ever been monogamous is with my partner's oc and I doubt that'll change any time soon.
III. The rules in my general section also apply here. Don't press for an OOC relationship, don't constantly push for erp and don't be weird. I like to have friendships outside of roleplay and I'm more likely to commit to a pairing if we get along out of character. It's about feeling like our boundaries and expectations are being met. I like my roleplay partners to be my friends, duh!
IV. If your character ends up in a monogamous relationship, you no longer wish to commit to the pairing with Sarrai or anything in that realm, just let me know ooc and I'll remove it. Let Sarrai know ic and she'll be happy to revert to a platonic relationship. Let her be your hype squad!
ARTHEL YMIR
A Sharlayan scholar specialising in the many facets of the void, Sarrai is insatiably interested in Arth's many works, especially those pertaining to life and the avoidance of death. He also tutors her in a number of academic pursuits to assist in her future.
HEY, SARRAI, WHAT THE FUCK DOES THIS MEAN?
DECAY EXISTS AS AN EXTANT FORM OF LIFE.
That’s a terrifying answer, have a nice day.
