At Gateway to Early Learning, not only does the Director take pride in the program overall, but she also leads our Early Preschool classroom.
The center shares a teaching philosophy that is simple, yet powerful: We as Early Childhood Educators take pride in the early academic years of the children within our program. We value the power of play, self discovery, independence, and the whole child. We understand that children are only this little one time, and while Kindergarten Readiness is a huge focus within our program, so is play, social emotional skill building, and building independence and confidence.
This academic year, I am thrilled to begin implementing a new curriculum within the program, Creative Curriculum. Learning Strategies has given Creative Curriculum a facelift, offering a brand new way to prescribe the content. Content within this curriculum gives children the opportunity to learn real life skills, study various concepts that are age appropriate, and give them the most successful start to their elementary school journey (Teaching Solutions, 2026).
Additionally, Gateway to Early Learning will be offering a brand new food program in the 2026-2027 school year, offering scratch made breakfast, snacks (AM & PM), and lunch. This will provide children with opportunities to try new foods and connect with peers as they try various new things.
At Gateway to Early Learning, our team is dedicated to creating a safe environment for all children. Unsafe behaviors are not tolerated within our classrooms, and if these behaviors are displayed, such as biting, hitting, kicking, or inappropriate language, parents will be informed and an individualized behavior plan will be set in place to work with the child.
Our program handles behavior by following Conscious Discipline, a philosophy founded by Dr. Becky Bailey (Cullins, 2020). This philosophy gives children the tools to begin to identify positive choices on their own, understand how to maneuver through differences with their peers, and strengthen their ability to self regulate through difficult situations (Cullins, 2020). If you would like to implement this philosophy in your home with your student, feel free to connect with your child's teacher to get valuable support.
By holding high expectations, and a clear route to addressing behaviors within the program, our team can effectively provide all students with a safe learning environment that supports healthy development for all.
Our team ensures that behaviors are effectively addressed to provide that specific student with the best opportunity for growth, alongside their peers. Children need guidance and tools to understand that certain behaviors will not be tolerated both in the Gateway to Early Learning program, and their future classrooms as well. Our program gives children the safe space to learn these skills before elementary school.
