Being a Non Profit organization opens the door for valuable volunteer opportunities. We always need a helping hand at the center, and these opportunities reinforce ownership and pride in your child's learning environment.
Keeping up a clean and tidy center takes a lot of work on our teams part, parents are welcome to dedicate time to support us in this effort. We have restrooms used by the children that are deep cleaned weekly and disenfected daily. Classrooms need consistent sanitization and cleaning, our garbage needs to be transferred to the disposal site multiple times per week, and our hallway tends to collect the joys of day to day activities quickly! If you have the availability to support us in these efforts, please connect with Sammi or Danielle to arrange this help.
Each day, our classrooms bustle with read alouds, crafts and art projects, STEM projects, and critical learning opportunities. Having parents step in to lend a helping hand, show a skill that is beneficial for the children, or lead an activity is always welcome. Our team thrives on parent involvement, and we would love to see you in the classroom just as much as your child would! Opportunities such as this creates a strong sense of pride in your child, you, and our program.
Gateway to Early Learning works to offer and participate in a variety of community events. Looking back, we have helped host a Back to School Bash, Coats for Kids event, and various open house opportunities. We love having various "stations" open to keep families engaged, alongside snack hotspots. These stations are easy to run, and a parents face can help the community feel comfortable during the event. These events also take a lot of set up, support with setting up and taking down is always greatly appreciated!
Finally, we are a really small team! We get sick, have emergencies, and may need days away from work at times. Subbing is such a powerful support to our program. This type of volunteering does require some commitment from interested parents or community members. To be qualified as a sub, individuals will have to go through state mandated training, CPR and First Aid training, and complete and pass an FBI Background Check.
Preschool offers an opportunity for parents to understand and feel comfortable advocating for their child in a school setting. Our team is heavily focused on healthy collaboration, and our goal is to ensure that parents walk away with the confidence, the knowledge of what their child needs, and the skills to effectively navigate scenarios within their child's school journey. Advocacy may seem daunting, however, our safe space that allows for mistakes, open conversations, and partnership allows for parents to build these schools and walk into kindergarten like a pro! (Kirkwood, 2016).
Involvement within your child's school can positively affect the relationships within the home (Kirkwood, 2016). Parents who are actively involved in their child's progress, and connect with their child's teacher on ways to support and implement practices within the home not only set their child up for long term success, but also establish positive habits for years to come (Kirkwood, 2016). Habits can reflect in ways such as having a solid understanding of what your child is learning, areas that they need more support, and consistently connecting with teachers to gain resources and strategies to support at home (Kirkwood, 2016).
