One of my favourite books on leadership is "Good to Great" by Jim Collins. Of all of the leadership books I have read, it most resonates with my own style, as well as with the great leaders with whom I have worked. Importantly, it is validated by data gathered from nearly 1500 organisations. I will outline below three aspects that are the most important with regards my leadership style.
My leadership style balances quiet humility with an unyielding professional will. I approach my role with a modest, understated presence, intentionally deflecting public praise to focus entirely on the long-term success of the school rather than personal recognition. Beneath this calm demeanor lies a fierce, unwavering resolve to achieve institutional excellence. I possess a relentless drive to deliver stable, high-quality outcomes, remaining completely undeterred by complex challenges or difficult decisions. This unique combination allows me to steady the school community from within, quietly paving a resilient path toward continuous academic and organizational growth.
My leadership approach closely follows the "window and the mirror" principle. When our school community achieves success, I look out the window to attribute credit entirely to the dedication of our faculty, the resilience of our students, and the collaboration of our parents and board. Conversely, when challenges arise or outcomes fall short, I look in the mirror to assume full responsibility, focusing on how my own guidance can improve rather than deflecting accountability onto external circumstances or bad luck. This practice fosters a deeply trusted, transparent environment where teachers and students feel secure, valued, and empowered to excel.
As an educator, I approach my role not as a "show horse" seeking personal accolades, but as a dedicated "workhorse" focused entirely on institutional and student success. My commitment is rooted in the quiet, unglamorous day-to-day execution of our shared educational vision. Rather than cultivating a public persona, I focus my energy on creating a safe, inclusive environment where every voice is genuinely valued. True leadership in education is defined by humility, deep empathy, and a relentless resolve to build lasting academic excellence, driving steady momentum from within the heart of the school community.
