Garrett's Charity

Heighington, Lincolnshire

Garrett's Charity was formed from the bequest of Thomas Garrett,  a local wealthy man, in 1620 when he left a sum of money to found a boys school in the chapel which he owned.  In 1865 a substantial renovation took place and as part of this the school rooms were added. These continued to be used as the boys' school for the village until 1976.   Now known as the Thomas Garrett Heritage Rooms, they are used for arts, crafts and educational purposes. The buildings, all of which are owned by Garrett's Charity, have stood at the centre of village life for centuries and are part of the glue that holds our community together.

A Roof Over Our History:

More than 400 years of charitable service and education at the heart of our community

We need your help!  Whether you have sat in the Chapel pews on a Sunday morning, attended the village carol service, reminisced about your former school days, participated in a group activity, joined the bustle of the Christmas festival in the Heritage Rooms, or simply admired the building whilst walking your dog, you have been part of the history that makes the Chapel of Ease and the Thomas Garrett Heritage Rooms so special in our community.

Garrett’s Charity is spearheading a campaign to raise funds to reroof the Chapel and the Heritage Rooms. As part of the renovation, we also plan to insulate the internal ceilings to help reduce heat loss and running costs.

Whilst we will apply for grants, we will need to raise a substantial sum ourselves from local sources.
