Unit 3 Adaptation and Survival helped us inquire about the driving question How do living organisms adapt to survive in their habitat?

We tuned into this unit by exploring how birds evolved from prehistoric animals, the dinosaurs. In the beginning, we found this absurd and asked many questions to get to the bottom of this mystery and soon identified that this was indeed true as those prehistoric animals had certain features that we see in the modern bird today. 

During this unit, we learned that all living beings have specific and behavioural structural adaptations that allow them to succeed in their environment. For example, we concluded that plants with sharp thorns on the stem protect from predators.

Also how the shape of mouth changes the food preference. For example, if the insect’s source of food is a liquid, a straw-like mouth would be most successful. We explored, tools for gripping, lapping, and tearing in birds through various experiments.

We identified the similarities and differences between structural and behavioural adaptations. We invited a wildlife writer and a conservationist from the Habitat Trust who helped to learn more about Wildlife and Biodiversity in the Indian subcontinent.We also watched various videos and took part in Virtual Safaris, observing animals adapting to survive. 

Finally, we chose a living being of our choice and researched about it in detail and as a culmination we presented our findings through a report, model, monologue or autobiography of the living being.
