3 Corbett
Welcome to our habitat!
Dear Parents,
In this unit, 'Adaptations and Survival', we took a deep dive into animal and plant adaptation. Take a look at how we began with the evolution of birds, researched and answered questions we had about evolution and learnt about plant and animal adaptation in our local environment. We then used our learnings to understand our responsibility towards all animals in our environment and finally created our own animals with their own adaptations. We integrated throughout our unit using the concepts- change, perspective and responsibility. We hope you enjoy the glimpse into our learning journey.
Love,
The 3 Corbett Family
Unit: Adaptation and Survival
central Idea: Living beings undergo a change (adapt) in order to survive.
Tuning In
We started our provocation with the question Do you know that birds and dinosaurs are related?
We had a lot of questions in our mind, so we jotted them down and categorized them.
Finding Out
We explored the concepts by asking questions and carrying out research.
We figured out that living beings adapt in order to survive.
Step Inside - perspective
We stepped into the shoes of a Polar Bear and explained what happened if we reached a desert.
Sorting Out
We wanted to understand the meaning of the term adaptation and know more about how do plants and animals adapt?

Going Further
We extended our learning by participating in various workshops.
We also conducted research regarding different types of trees and their leaves.
Wildlife Adaptations - Vaishali ma'am from Habitats Trust told us about various adaptations of animals from different habitats.
Let's Find out - Amyra , from our class, conducted a fun experiment session where we looked at which adaptations help a Penguin and a Polar Bear to survive in their habitat.
We invited Kavin and Vehana from 3 Ranthambore. They shared their learning about beak adaptation with us.
Trees in our neighbourhood
We went on a local tour in our backyard or society park and observed the trees around us. We discussed how different trees have different leaves - of various colour, shape and size.
It's All About Trees
We researched about different types of trees in our neighbourhood and collected facts about these trees.
Fun with leaves
We created animal and bird figures using leaves of different shape, size, and colour.
how to measure and draw - Jamun leaf
We drew leaves by measuring the length of the leaf. We estimated the length of the leaves, compared them and also measured leaves of various types of trees! We observed how patterns & structures changed in leaves of different types of trees.
Taking Action
imaginary creature
We looked at environmental conditions in the city and created imaginary animals that could survive in our city for our summative assessment! We organized our thoughts in a table, used a checklist and a sample to help us.
Take a look at some of our creations!
