Flagler Trade-Crafters, LLC. is the culmination of over 25 of years of experience garnered over the career of its owner Travis Smith. Travis graduated in 2003 from the University of Florida while achieving a degree in Building Construction but his construction journey started much earlier. When he turned 15 years old, he became a general laborer where he learned the basic cornerstones that are used to build a sound foundation of construction skills and knowledge that will support his ever-rising experience within the industry. He then joined as a painter's assistant on large commercial projects in the Orlando area. Through hard work, determination, and a willingness to listen to all who was kind enough to parley the lessons they learned over time, he worked his way up and by the age of 17 he was running his own spray rig. This did not come as a surprise to those who knew of his upbringing. Both his father and great uncle where master carpenters and his great grandfather was a construction manager. He was installed with all the knowledge they amassed over their decades of construction experience. He was destined to continue his family tradition.
After graduating he took a job with a large commercial contractor located in Sanford FL as an estimator. He was in charge for allocating proper bid coverage and estimating what the construction would cost for DIV 3 concrete/masonry, Division 5 steel, Division 7 Wood, Division 9 Finishes, and Division 10 Specialties. In the two years he was in the estimating department he was part of a team who completed hard bid, negotiated bid and design build projects. In this time, they contracted over 800 million dollars of revenue. He was part of the estimating team that oversaw the design build process for the UCF stadium. In year three he was moved out in the field as an assistant superintendent where he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day process of construction in an 8 million School renovation. This is when he combined his love of estimating with his newfound passion for being responsible to ensure construction goes per the specifications and construction documents and is delivered on time and under budget.
After that he moved down south to Naples Fl where he spent the next ten years learning and mastering all levels of construction management including Project Management, General Superintendent and even spending a year as the head of the company's warranty department. He worked on projects ranging from jail renovations, Hardrock casinos, government courthouse Buildings, a campus wide chiller plant, large schools and luxury condominiums. These projects ranged between 10 million dollars all the way up to the Omni Rosen Hotel and beach complex in Fernandina Beach which totaled nearly 250 million upon completion All this was being conducted while Travis Smith was also honing his actual tradesman skills on the side taking on any project that presented itself.
At this point it was time to test the waters with working for himself and that was the conception point of what would become his labor of love, Flagler Trade-Crafters, LLC. He took the lessons he learned over the last 20 years while continuing to fine tune his craftsmanship and learning skills to expand his competency in every facet of construction he had the opportunity to undertake. One of the things that make this endeavor so exciting to him is that you'll never be at a point where you can't learn new tricks or tweak processes to further smooth the flow of the many balls that have to be juggled to complete a project successfully. He will pursue this passion for the rest of his life and hopes along the way that he can help bring your dreams to a reality in the process.
