2023-24 Reading list

Paper Cranes for Peace
Town Meeting Member Carlos Tamayo will read Love, by Matt de la Peña.
We invite discussion about our shared humanity and how we can be united as a school community and take care of each other. We know that many in our community are hurting and extend a special invitation to families affected by the war in Israel and Gaza. We also invite families without cultural connection to the region but want to learn more and support our neighbors and friends in tangible ways.
Materials needed for Peace Cranes: a square piece of paper, ideally 6 inches by 6 inches.

Gather in Unity
Rachel Craigen, BEEP administrator, will read What is Peace by Wallace Edwards and talk about how she is feeling (appropriate for Pre-K age).
Daniel Lipton, FRR 2nd grade teacher will lead a song of Shalom in Hebrew while students have a chance to do a reflection activity.
At around 7:30 PM, MA State Representative Tommy Vitolo will share words of comfort and transition us to a time better fit for an older audience (middle school, HS, and grownups).
Town Meeting Member, Library Trustee Chair, and writer Michael Burstein will share his perspective as a Brookline community member and person of Jewish heritage who has loved ones directly affected by the war in Israel.
We recognize the diversity within our hurting community and remember that many around us are suffering in ways we can only imagine. Our intent is to support all who are affected by the current atrocities. We stand together in unity against Hamas upon our own neighborhood of humanity. And we remind ourselves to interact with one another with kindness and love.
