Amanda has once again surprised me with a bottle of Dew on my work desk! And this time it was REALLY a surprise because I honestly wasn’t expecting to see this flavor in our area for two or three more months.
So, first off, sorry I couldn’t get a clearer photo. Ironically, I was tasting this fun, summer flavor on a very dreary, rainy day. I actually turned the brightness on this picture as high as my phone would let me, but obviously it didn’t help much. Y’all gonna have to do some Googling if you want a better look at the label design. 🤷♂️
Second off, I must warn you that you may want to take this review with a grain of salt. I am currently battling that gnarly sinus cold that’s going around, and though I am on the upswing, my taste buds are probably not working at their full capacity right now. (Should I have waited until I was fully recovered before tasting a new flavor for the first time? Probably. Do I have the patience for that? Absolutely not.)
With that, let’s dive on in. This little beauty is called Summer Freeze, and the official flavor description is “Dew with a blast of Summer Americano.” To put it in less ambiguous terms, it’s supposed to taste like those old school, rocket ship popsicles with the red, white, and blue stripes.
If you want to get even more specific, the Mountain Dew website says that the flavors in it are cherry, lemon, and raspberry. I personally couldn’t really detect any cherry, but I definitely tasted the lemon and the raspberry. The lemon part in particular gave it a really nice tang that made it feel even more summery, since it got me thinking about lemonade in addition to already thinking about popsicles.
There was also another underlying flavor that I could taste, but couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. The closest thing I came up with to compare it to is a Push Pop, but that’s still not quite right. Or maybe that was supposed to be the cherry, and we can just chalk this one up to me being sick.
Overall, I enjoyed this flavor a lot, and I look forward to trying it again at a time when my body doesn’t hate me. I don’t think I would put it in my top ten, but that’s only because there are so many amazing Dews now, the competition is pretty tough. In another life, with much less choices, I could see it being one of my favorites.
Oh, one last thing: Summer Freeze will turn your poop green... unless that is another situation we can chalk up to me being sick.
