Thank you Amanda for once again bringing me a Mountain Dew treat at work!
Honestly, I thought this one was going to be awful. Fruitcake itself is notorious for being unpleasant, plus I was kind of expecting it to be similar to last year’s Christmas flavor, which I didn’t really care for. I’m happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised.
There is a hint of cinnamon and other holiday spices on the aftertaste, but it’s not overwhelming at all. The main flavor is a nice, slightly tart, very fruity flavor. It reminded me of cranberries, but I let Amanda and Erich try some, and they both said it was almost like a fruit punch.
If I had to compare it to something, I would say it’s like mulled wine and sangria had a baby. Like, imagine a cold, carbonated, sweeter version of mulled wine, and you’ve basically got Fruit Quake. Personally, I’m a big fan of both mulled wine and sangria, so I’m vibing with this.
It’s not quite as sweet as most other fruity Dew flavors, and I wouldn’t say it’s in my top 10, but I still really enjoyed it. I might be biased because my expectations were so low, but I still highly recommend trying this one. This is now my 2nd favorite Christmas Dew, after Merry Mash-Up.
Come to think of it, I’ve never tried actual fruitcake before. Now I’m wondering if I should!
Note: Amanda and Erich were both coworkers of mine at the time. Amanda and I are also friends outside of work.
