Something very, very lucky happened to me yesterday!
Curtis and I went to Tractor Supply to run an errand. I happened to glance into the little fridge next to the registers, and lo and behold, there were the new 4th of July Dews! Tractor Supply was definitely not the place I was expecting to find those, but LET’S GOOOOO!!!
I got all three flavors, but I decided to try Freedom Fusion first, because that was the one I was most excited about. Freedom Fusion is a peach lemonade Dew. As a big fan of KFC’s Sweet Lightning, which is peach and honey-flavored, I was totally stoked to get my hands on another peachy Dew.
This is a really fascinating one. It tastes like lemonade when you first begin to sip it, but then the lemonade flavor gradually changes into a peach flavor. And I don’t mean that it has a peach aftertaste— I mean the flavor actually transforms while it’s still in your mouth. I have absolutely no idea how that works, but it is a delight to experience.
In terms of lemonade Dews, I think I would rate this one above Spark, but not quite as high as Baja Laguna Lemonade. Like Spark, Freedom Fusion tastes more like lemonade than Mountain Dew, so it’s a poolside drink for sure. I also think it would make a phenomenal snow cone flavor.
As for the battle of the peach Dews, I’m having a difficult time deciding whether I prefer Freedom Fusion or Sweet Lightning. They’re surprisingly pretty different from each other, but both delicious in their own ways. Freedom Fusion certainly has the edge as a summertime Dew, but it’s a tough call other than that.
Either way, I highly recommend this one. I’m eager to taste this year’s other two 4th of July Dews, but I don’t see how they can possibly top Freedom Fusion.
