Each fall, with TRCA support, we remove Burdock plant overgrowth in HBPEast, which allows birds & small animals to avoid being trapped in mature burrs with no escape & inevitible death.
To avoid tossed cigarette butt litter, we are now developing, placing & maintaining “butt bins” in areas of the park adjacent to seating areas.
In planting seasons, TRCA supplies equipment, know-how, & young plants for us to replant at the Burdock removal site. Native bees can then pollinate flowers of these plants while native insects & birds utilize them for food.
TRCA installed & we monitor, repair, & clean swallow nest boxes in HBPEast. Park visitors can watch tree swallows courting, arguing, & dragging in nesting material to feed their young.
We cleanup the Park every spring and fall. A record collection of garbage occurred in the spring of 2018 when over 1300 pounds was collected by volunteers. See schedule of Events.
Our Spring Clean was on April 14th 53 volunteers collected 450 lbs of garbage
A knowledgeable Field Naturalist leads leisurely, informative walks focusing on features of animal & plant life in the park.
Our next Nature Walk is May 19th
