The Project

I'm Joel Feenstra, and I’m a parent of a youth player from Canada. (That is Nate on the left. 6’3” [191 cm] at age 14.)  Youth basketball has been great for him, and we are working at giving back into and supporting the system where we can.

Every coach should have a portable scoreboard available for scrimmages or small tournaments.  But the cost of that isn’t practical.  In youth sports in particular, everyone has been to practices, scrimmages, or even games where there's nothing more than a flip chart or a whiteboard with tallies.  It'll do in a pinch, but let's be honest, we can do better.  Players, schools and clubs have the passion but the money is sometimes tight.  $800 will get you a portable setup, but a full mounted hardware and shotclocks will often be north of $20,000 with installation. But most people have access to an old laptop and a projector or HDMI capable TV can usually be bought cheap off Marketplace.

 It got me thinking about creating digital software.  As a university instructor I had a sabbatical during which I took a bunch of coding and software development courses.  So in the summer of 2026, I just kind of went for it, using that training and vibe coding in the rest.  It's been a passion side-project for the last couple of months, and I'm over 30 software versions deep before I've finally finished.  But now I've got a proper Windows based software suite to handle Basketball scoring. 

The software allows flexible setups using regular computer hardware.  It is designed to use a regular laptop or PC as the central scoring station, and then use a TV, spare monitor, or projector scoreboard.   The PC can be an old standalone computer as well, and it does not need any data or Internet connection to run this.

The goal with this software is to launch it for free to the basketball community worldwide. Help support school athletics, sports clubs and all the communities built around those.  I've got no plans to ever monetize it, and there are no ads to sit through, data harvesting, or other sneaky back-end ways of making money. It's just standalone software for the sake of making sure everyone can run a professional looking show.
