Postcards for Educational Justice

Artist Peter Liversidge centers his artistic practice around the writing of proposals for potential performances and artworks, ranging from the straightforward to the seeming impossible. The proposals often rely on participants to be collaborators in his artistic vision. Some of the proposals are:

“I propose that we should walk together.”

“I propose to invite the reader of this proposal to dress as their parents.”

“I propose that the person reading this proposal should imagine that their feet are in a mountain stream.”

“I request that the reader of this proposal leave their home, place of work and go out and find a stone. Once that stone has been located they should kick it back to the place they have just left. On the way taking one photograph of the stone where it is found, one on the way, and one once it has arrived to the place it has been kicked.”

What do you propose to make our educational system better? What do you propose to make our educational system more just, inclusive, and fair? What do you propose should get the boot?

Your proposal can be something tangible and actionable. It can be fanciful and imaginative. It can be attainable or seemingly unattainable. It can be grounded in this world or it can be a flight of your imagination. It can be anything you wish it to be.

Consider your Audience. Who is the ideal recipient of this proposal? See how it feels to write directly to that person.

Put your proposal on a postcard!
