Community Outreach

Outreach

Outreach is our way of extending STEM into the community, with the hope of inspiring of inspiring a wave of novice engineers and creators through shock and awe tactics by providing interactive and eye-catching demonstrations, events and activities, or by making STEM more accessible and approachable. Alongside that, we aim to provide support and opportunities to close members of our community and lend a helping hand whenever possible.

Scratch Outreach initiative

In May of 2021, team members taught elementary students how to block code using Scratch via zoom to increase interest for coding in young minds. Weekly 75 minute sessions occurred for 3 consecutive weeks, with the main objective being "how to create a game". Team 4914 members spent months developing lessons and reaching out to elementary schools.

We are running Scratch Workshops again on May 31, June 7, June 14 2022 @5PM.

FIRST TECH CHALLENGE

Team 4914 started a FTC team in 2019, in order to help new members to familiarize themselves with our robotics programs by providing a lower intensity version of a similar competition to FRC. Unfortunately, we are not running FTC this year (2022).

NXT Workshops

Team 4914 hosts NXT workshops at libraries, open to children from 7-13. The workshops consisted of lessons on how to build, code & create their own NXT robots, to excite kids in our community about robotics. Unfortunately, all in-person workshops are cancelled due to COVID-19.

FLL Mentoring

Starting from hosting First Lego League qualifiers & having a practice field, now select Team 4914 members travel to other teams, where they mentor & provide their expertise to help encourage STEM in people from a young age. Unfortunately, all in-person workshops are cancelled due to COVID-19.
