In 2020 the average number of children requiring foster care per month in Ontario, was 9,300, which is just under 112,000 per year. These numbers do not include indigenous populations, so sadly the overall totals are even higher. Of those 9,300 children included each month, all of them experienced some form of trauma. This does not mean that they were all abused or neglected, it simply implies that even the requirement of leaving their home and the people they know, even if only temporarily, has a traumatic effect.

How is it then, that some children are able to cope and overcome these traumatic events essentially on their own and other's need our help? Many things play a role, including environmental and genetic factors, however one important piece that seems to have a tremendous impact is resilience.
The resources in this section discuss the impacts trauma can have on a child, as well as, how coping tools and strategies can aid in the development of resilience in children overcoming trauma.
This video presentation tells the personal story of childhood trauma, emphasizing the important role resilience has in a child's outcome.
