Session Proposal
In the midst of the COVID era, our theater embarked on a unique endeavor—crafting a historical web musical titled "The Battle of Jerus." Spanning five compelling songs, the series unveiled a forgotten chapter in Israel's history, echoing the style of Lin Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton'—transforming the Israeli founding figures into the unexpected realm of Hip Hop.
However, as we ventured into translating the lyrical narrative into English for subtitles, we encountered a symphony of challenges. While translating rhymes alone poses its difficulties, the complexity amplified when dealing with the intricate wordplay, inner jokes, and cultural references inherent in Hip Hop.
Eran Kraus, a writer and actor deeply involved in the project, assumed the formidable task of bridging linguistic and cultural gaps. Join us as he unveils the trials and triumphs faced while translating this musical journey, offering insights into the delicate dance of preserving artistic expression across language borders.
