Session Proposal
Museum theatre is generally thought of as a museum program offered to visitors with the aim of delving deeper into the exhibits of a museum and encouraging interaction between the visitors and the museum exhibits. In the present proposal the museum theatre is seen as an educational tool and has been used in order to engage students into exploring the exhibits of the museum in an active, creative way Is is connected to language in two ways.
• Firstly, the project was designed with the aim of developing writing and speaking skills and students took part in workshops in order to learn how a script for a drama performance is written in terms of language.
• Secondly, the project was also part of an Erasmus project with Poland and Italy and it was performed for students from these countries. We used subtitles and summaries in an attempt to help them understand the meaning of the dialogues. However, non verbal "stage" language was also important as students tried to use their bodies and facial expressions as a means to communicate feelings and situations. In my proposal I intend to describe the stages of a two-year project which includes the preparation of the scripts regarding several exhibits and inscriptions of the Archeological Museum of Delphi by students through a series of specially designed workshops as well as the final performances of the first museum theatre festival by students in Greece. I will use a powerpoint presentation, samples of the worksheets used with students as well as photos and a short video of the nine performances during the Museum Theatre Festival.
