Fairey marine boats have appeared on a number of films over the years, racing and promotional. With the advent of YouTube and other video sites, quite a few of these films are available to the 'Internet Connected'. I've attempted to track a few down and link to them here. If you find any others, please let me know.
This one has recently come to light on YouTube. Quite a few of the CT race films may be found here.
First up - "Ride the White Horses" a Ford Film Unit production covering the 1969 Round Britain Race, in which the Ford team acquitted itself very well.
Originally used as a test transmission film on what was to become BBC2, the film appears in three sections online probably due to YouTube's original upload limits. If you like to see it in its original one-piece glory, then join the Fairey Owners' Club and acquire a copy of the club DVD.
This one was a Fairey Marine promotional film which was updated yearly and run at various boat shows. This version is probably from 1973 and is not quite complete. It deals with FM's decision to move into the Commercial and Military market following the introduction of the luxury goods VAT rate and of course the rampant hike in oil prices in the early 70's.
This one was also used as a test transmission film for BBC2 and a slightly more complete version is included on the FOC's club DVD.
Finally (for the moment) we have another Ford Film Unit production. This time of the London Monte-Carlo race. Watch out for one of the Ford team Huntsman 28's 909 which competed along with two Huntsman 31's.
2008 saw the third running of the Round Britain Powerboat Race. Several Fairey Owners' Club members entered and acquitted themselves well in the Classic Class. Look closely for a Spearfish, Huntsman 31 and Swordsman.
For completeness, here's the second Round Britain Race. Run in 1984. I don't think any Faireys entered, but at least one Spearfish makes an appearance.
If you find any other Fairey Marine related films, please let me know.
