The annual, non-profit event which traditionally honors the nation's first president, is being enlarged this year in observance of the Bicentennial of the United States of America. For the first time the banquet is being co-sponsored by two other local patriotic organizations, the St. Andrew Bay Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Captain James Day Chapter of the Colonial Dames.
Planning for this celebration has been coordinated with Mrs. Joe H. McCoy, Regent of the DAR, Miss Catherine Martin, a past DAR Regent, and Mrs. D. H Anderson, President of the Colonial Dames.
Carswell states that the three sponsoring organizations are all dedicated to furthering the ideals of America's heritage, a common bond on the occasion of the Bicentennial Celebration.
Tom Bingham, founder of the local SAR chapter, will serve as master of ceremonies at the banquet. Bingham hopes the 'joint' Washington Birthday Celebration will become an annual event.
The three sponsoring organizations have agreed to invite as many of the citizenry as can be accommodated to share in the occasion. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at either A.G. Edwards and Sons, or Carsell's Marina Barber Shop, or by calling 234-5673.
