The Robodog team is a team that is made up of new students every year. We host a summer camp allowing any student in grades 5-8 to try out for the team. Some team members are asked back, some are not. Just because you are part of the team one year does not guarantee a return. You must show that you deserve to be part of this team. This also allows any student a fair chance to be part of this experience.
With that being said we have had a good run of successful teams.
2010 - 2011 - Qualified for State Tournament through our research presentation, "Did You Know?" - First Place! We competed well at state, but came home empty handed.
2011 - 2012 - Qualified for State Tournament through our robot performance and Core Values - We took First Place in both!
2011 - 2012 - We won the Champion's Award for the state of Iowa and was able to compete at the international competition in Florida
2012 - 2013 - Qualified for State Tournament through our first place performance for our Research Project. We also took first in our robot performance and took Honorable Mention as they combined Robot Performance and Design into one category
2012 - 2013 - We won the First Place Trophy for Overall Project for the state of Iowa for our Tongue Lift idea.
2013-2014 - Due to demand we expanded to two teams. One team took home Champion Award at the regional competition and the other team also received an invite to state. At state one team won the Judge's award bringing home a trophy and both teams were 5th and 7th in the robot runs.
2014 - 2015 - Our teams qualified for State and brough home hardware for research and robot performance.
2015 - 2016 - We expanded to three teams for this season. Two of the three teams qualified for state. Both teams brought home hardware from state with Robodogs Black winning the Global Innovation Award.
2016 - 2017 Another year of three teams and we divided by age this year. We had a 5/6th grade team, a 7th grade team, and an 8th grade team. All three teams qualified for state with our 7th grade team winning the Global Innovation Award at the Regionals.
State Results
Congrats to the 5th/6th grade team for first place in Project Research. You should be proud for your performance and ideas. This is a huge accomplishment for you and what is to come.
Congrats to the amazing character of our 7th grade team for staying strong, positive, and courageous when they could not catch a break. Between Anastasia being super sick and the robot doing things it never done before I was impressed by their actions and staying positive.
Congrats to the 8th grade team for the first place in Robot Performance. This is the first time we have ever reached this goal or status so kudos to you for sticking to the robot, spending countless hours working to make it functional. A great end to your careers.
Overall, this is an amazing showing. You should all be proud. We are doing things that many teams can only dream of doing. Credit to all of you students for making it happen.
