About the Festival

Fleurieu Folk Festival is an annual event held in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia. It celebrates folk music, culture, and community, featuring performances from local, interstate and international artists. The festival offers a range of activities, including live concerts, workshops, and jam sessions for music lovers of all ages. In addition to music, it highlights local food, craft, and art, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The event is known for its welcoming, family-friendly environment and its dedication to fostering creativity and cultural exchange.  Most of all, it's all about the music!

Fleurieu Folk Festival has proudly received the City of Onkaparinga Community Event of the Year award five times: in  2014, 2016, 2020, 2022 and 2024.

Youth Program

Promoting young South Australian musicians has always been a major priority for the Fleurieu Folk Festival. Each year, the Festival nominates an outstanding folk musician aged between 14 and 25 to represent South Australia in Folk Alliance Australia's youth showcase concert at the National Folk Festival in Canberra. The aim of the Youth Awards is to boost the profile of young performers and introduce, support and encourage them to the next level of their development.

Dance

Fleurieu Folk Festival incorporates dancers because dance is an integral part of many folk traditions, reflecting the cultural heritage of a community. Dancers bring energy and visual appeal to the festival, helping to tell stories and enhance the music with movement. Traditional folk dances, such as Morris Dancing or Bush Dances create a deeper connection between performers and audiences. In addition to preserving cultural practices, dancers provide an interactive experience for festival-goers, inviting participation and fostering a sense of community. The presence of dancers enriches the festival atmosphere, making it more immersive and dynamic. And, dancers help showcase the diversity of folk traditions, making the festival a more vibrant and inclusive celebration of culture.

Every year the Festival presents a wide range of dance performances, family bush dances, Morris dancing and dance demonstrations.

Join in!

It's not all about sitting and listening either – bring along your instrument and your voice. Join a jam session or start your own, or sign up for a blackboard concert. Informal sessions will be happening all weekend in the Session Bar and around the festival.

Planning your festival

Fleurieu Folk Festival is unique in that all venues are either indoor or under a marquee. Not only that, but there is seating in all events. And the festival area is paved. So there’s no roasting under the hot sun, freezing in the rain, hauling chairs around or wallowing in the mud. We take your comfort seriously!
