Meet the Officers
Jessica Dunnick has been attending FIO workshops since she was a Freshman in college! She teaches K-4 at Bowman Woods in the Linn-Mar Community School District and received her B.A. in Music Education from the UNI and her M.A. in Music Education / Orff from the Univ. of St. Thomas. She has completed all Orff Levels and Kodaly Level 1. Jessica loves to incorporate teaching styles from Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze into her teaching. She enjoys leading professional development in her district, at FIO, and at Coe College.
Dr. Michelle Swanson teaches at the University of Northern Iowa. She teaches several music education courses, supervises music student teachers, advises, and conducts the UNI Children's Chorus. She works with elementary music teachers in consultation all across Iowa, presents often at music education conferences, and also conducts elementary, middle school and high school honor choirs throughout the midwest. She is married to Chad, an attorney in Waterloo, and they have two children -- Elizabeth (21) and Matthew (16) -- and a dog, Larry (2).
Katie teaches K-6 Music at North Cedar Elementary and Aldrich Elementary in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from UW-Madison in 2010 and earned her Talented & Gifted endorsement from UNI in 2013. Katie completed three levels of Orff-Schulwerk training and World Music Drumming 1 from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, IL.
Michelle Droe teaches general music and Chorus to grades K-6 at Lincoln Elementary in Cedar Falls. This marks her 27th year of teaching. She has taught in Colorado, Florida, and Iowa. Droe graduated with a BA in Music Education from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD and an MM in Horn Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. She has completed 3 levels of training in the Kodaly Method and has two levels of Orff Training.
