“From Local to International Classroom: Teaching Experience with SEA-Teachers”
Classroom management at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) and elementary schools in the Philippines emphasizes the application of clear rules, creating a supportive environment, the use of active and participatory learning methods, and effective behavior management. Prospective teachers at UNP will be prepared to meet these challenges with an approach that is inclusive, technology-based and involves parents in the child's education.
One thing that is no less important is the provision of ice breaking. This needs to be done so that students do not feel bored or stressed with the material provided. Ice breaking can also be related to the material/topic discussed, but of course the form and media need to be adjusted again.
The activities developed in the lesson plans are all student-centered. Therefore, the teacher acts as a facilitator. In addition to providing oral and written instructions on the student activity sheets, the instructions on each activity are also displayed on the power point presentation slides, so that students can easily ask if there are instructions or activities that they do not understand. When discussions and activities have begun, the next thing to do is class control, in the sense of not staying in one spot so that students have easier and faster access to ask questions. When the time allocated for one of the activities has run out, while students are still not finished, then giving additional time can be considered, considering that forcing students to continue to the next stage or activity will only make students more difficult.
