SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION
SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION
“From Local to International Classroom: Teaching Experience with SEA-Teachers”
Purposes of Practicum (meets or not meets your need)
In my opinion, I have fulfilled everything in this programme. With this sea-teacher programme at first I was hesitant to participate because I was not sure about my teaching skills which I myself did not have a good basic in English and with this programme it was very, very beyond my expectations to be able to undergo this programme as I said at the beginning I did not have a good basic English. but after I saw and observed myself I was satisfied with what I had done in this programme.
Practicum Procedure
We attended SEA Teacher for three weeks. The first week, we used it to adapt to the Philippines and do school observations. For the second week, we started making lesson plans and consulting with our mentor teachers. For the third week, we did our teaching practice despite the many events that UNP has organised, such as the reappointment of the UNP President, International Student Day and Dalliasat. And for the last week of our stay, we did a final demo supervised by UNP lecturers and mentor teachers.
Outcomes of practicum
From the beginning I started to look around the class I already got a lot of new experiences, starting from the lecturers who were very welcoming and the students who were there were very enthusiastic. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to take part in this programme. I got the opportunity to practice teaching in class 3. In addition, not only did I train my confidence, but also as an elementary school teacher education student, I was able to apply what I learned on campus. there I not only taught but I also learned, learned many things there. The results of this practicum were very good, although I still got suggestions from my supervisor to improve my teaching practice. These are very good suggestions that I can apply when I teach in the future.
The Challenges of Practicum
My biggest challenge during the practical was English and this was my first experience teaching students using English. This was also my first time teaching students from another country. It was my first time teaching students from another country where the majority of them speak English and there are many differences.
Overall Impression
Thank you to Allah SWT for predestining me to be able to take part in this program. and do not forget also thousands of thanks to my parents and family who have fully supported and prayed for me all this time, their support and prayers are very much needed in this program. This is the most unexpected luck for me very, very beyond my expectations that were not in the plan during my college. a lot of experiences and memories that may never be forgotten, new friends, can try new things, food that maybe in Indonesia I can not find and a very beautiful culture.
The teachers who teach very professionally, the students who are very active and very respectful, and the school staff who are very friendly. It was a good environment to provide quality education. The people of the Philippines are so kind and friendly that I might be more than comfortable to stay there. In addition to opening my horizons and thinking, it also provides a very valuable experience for my future and the people around me through the implementation that I will provide that maybe people are not as lucky as me to be in this program.
Suggestions for Future Improvement
Hopefully in the future we can reach more universities in ASEAN to carry out this student exchange and get a valuable opportunity to take part in the SEA Teacher program and gain a lot of new experience and knowledge. Maybe this program can be moved at the beginning of the year because when I was there, one of the obstacles was the typhoon because of that a little agenda there had to be postponed. Hopefully there will be more students from Indonesia who get this amazing opportunity to participate in the SEA Teacher program and get the best results. My biggest hope is that I can implement what I have learned at sea-teacher more widely in Indonesia.
