Where is Fair?
I wanted to be a man and didn’t want to wait,
Yet I did patiently for so many moons some time ago,
In so many songs I was told ‘Ne’er is ne’er’,
Despite a better plan for me, my instincts I wanted to sate,
I wanted her a part of me to show I wouldn’t let go,
In spite of our convictions, she told me “Fair is fair”,
I wanted to serve well as a man in their eyes of my mate,
Her promise I received that knew what we would undergo,
Despite the prongs, I decided “Dare to dare”,
I wanted to be a man and didn’t want to wait,
I paid the price when she smote heart on undertow,
All the songs seemed to sing of her to say “Wear is wear”,
I wanted to be her man, but she laid me low,
When her vices grew, you’d think I would’ve said “no”,
In spite of the bond we shared, she told me “Fair is fair”,
I wondered if I was a man and “Why bother repair?”,
Nothing could ever have prepared me for that blow,
Despite the wrongs, I was asked “Where is fair?”,
A few caring tongues also told me “There, there.”
