This advert is a print from the 1970s showcasing the Nike Cortez running shoe, one of its earliest and most iconic products. The ad is a very simple advert that features a bold vidual of the shoe with the tagline "Revolutionary Cortez" in large text. The advert emphasizes the shoe's design and innovative features, such as the cushioned sole and lightweight construction which was an innovation at the time.
This advert reflects Nike's whole brand on innovation and performance, as the Cortez was a groundbreaking product that revolutionized the running shoe industry. The tagline used in the advert expresses a sense of excitement and appeals to athletes seeking cutting-edge footwear. The use of both imagery and text within this advert showcases the need for athletes to have this footwear and position themselves as footwear for serious runs.
The advert was promoted in America in the 1970s and was not promoted anywhere else in the world due to technological drawbacks. This shows how individualistic the advert was as they did not care to advertise anywhere else and were most likely trying to expand their brand in America first.
The reason why I chose this ad was because it represents a pivotal moment in Nike's history as they began to establish themselves as a brand. I also am a fan of the Cortez shoe and currently own a pair and was intrigued by the way it started and how it is still relevant to this day.
