Thanks to my parents I now own several versions of the Polaroid Instant Camera. Mine are all of the non-folding variety. My parents did have an even earlier version that I plan on finding if it still exists. I also remember taking pictures with those earlier cameras. The film for these cameras was quite different.

Kodak Instant Pictures

Polaroid did not have a monopoly when it came to instant pictures. Below are pictures taken by my wife's family using a Kodak instant camera. The shape of the picture differs from the Polaroid picture. Cameras were called Colorburst. I did a little research on this format and discoverred it ended with a bang. Polaroid sued Kodak for copyright infringement. The result was that Kodak had to stop making their film immediately leaving a lot of people with cameras they could no longer use. Kodak had to pay $925 million to Polaroid as well.
