If you are a sophomore, junior or senior and have a 3.65 grade point average at Fairfield High School then you have achieved the first of the four pillars of the National Honor Society. In the fall, an announcement will be made for all prospective members with a 3.65 grade point average to pick up an information packet from Mr. Simmins is 3214. Messages will be sent out about when the information packet must be turned in. (Remember, it is NOT an application).
The information packet will measure the other three pillars: service, leadership, and character. When you fill out the information packet a candidate can detail his/her accomplishments, community service record, and academic achievements. These informational packets are then reviewed by teachers. All teachers will get a chance to participate in the process. Beside having a 3.65 grade point average a candidate needs at least 25 verified community service hours completed during high school by a signature or an email confirming the participation.
If you think you are eligible, or want to know, contact Mr. Simmins or an officer! Information about the selection process and application process can be found on this site!
Fairfield follows the national constitution
https://www.nhs.us/about/constitution-governance/nhs-national-constitution/
Students submit the packets to Mr. Simmins on the turn in date in 3214.
Mr. Simmins will give the packets to a team of five teachers called the selection committee to read each packet.
The selection committee will review the information packets and comments submitted from the high school teachers.
Vote! The selection committee will vote to induct or not induct a student.
Mr. Simmins will then personally deliver a letter informing the candidate if he or she will be inducted or not.
Students receiving a yes vote will be inducted.
Students receiving a no vote will be met with by Mr. Simmins for an explanation to develop a plan for next year.
The guidelines are set by the National Honor Society.
Information on how to fill out the packet, steps you can take to bolster your resume, and more will be given at the informational meeting. This meeting will be Tuesdays and Thursdays in 3214 from 2:30 to 3:30 for anyone needing assistance.
If unsure about anything, PLEASE CONTACT US! It is better to be safe than sorry!
For more information, contact a co-president on the officers page.

This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
