PROJECT 2A
Sense, Culture and Site: Contextual Analysis
"Sense, Culture and Site: Contextual Analysis" examines the relationship between a place, its cultural identity, and the sensory experiences it evokes. This analysis emphasizes how cultural heritage, environmental factors, and social context influence the design and perception of a site. By exploring these elements, the study aims to create designs that are deeply rooted in their surroundings, resonating with both the physical landscape and the cultural narratives of the community. This approach ensures that architectural and design projects are contextually relevant, meaningful, and responsive to their environment.
PROJECT 2B
Form, Content and Poetics: Melaka Fashion Gallery
"Form, Content and Poetics: Melaka Fashion Gallery" delves into the integration of architectural form, cultural content, and poetic expression in the design of a fashion gallery in Melaka. This project explores how architectural elements can be harmonized with the rich cultural heritage of Melaka, creating a space that is both functional and evocative. The gallery design draws inspiration from local traditions, materials, and aesthetics, transforming them into a contemporary setting that celebrates fashion as an art form. The result is a space where form, content, and poetics converge to create an immersive and culturally resonant experience.
Reflections
In Architectural Design 3, I experienced significant growth in both my design thinking and technical skills. The course challenged me to push the boundaries of creativity while grounding my ideas in practical solutions. One of the key lessons I learned was the importance of context—understanding the site, cultural influences, and environmental factors became central to my design process. I also honed my ability to integrate form and function, ensuring that each design decision contributed to both the aesthetic and usability of the space.
Collaboration played a vital role in this journey, as I worked closely with peers and instructors to refine my ideas. The critiques and feedback sessions were invaluable, providing new perspectives that helped me improve my designs. I also became more proficient in using digital tools to visualize and present my concepts, which enhanced my ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
Overall, Architectural Design 3 was a transformative experience that deepened my appreciation for the balance between creativity and practicality in architecture. It reinforced my commitment to designing spaces that are not only visually compelling but also contextually relevant and responsive to the needs of their users.
