CHAMPIONSHIPS PAGE UPDATED WITH IMPORTANT DETAILS. GOOD LUCK TO DIVERS AND COACHES!
Assignments
In assigning refs to meets, will consider location of coaches and proximity to meets. If you have specific requests for locations, preferences for AMs or PMs, email Joe. Review the league master schedule and if there are dates you will NOT be available to ref, send to Joe.
The assignments for the week will be distributed via email on Sunday night. This email will be sent the full distribution list and not just the assigned refs so that all have visibility into the assignments. If you do not receive an email, first check your spam. If it is not there, contact Lisa. The assignments will also be posted to the FCSL website.
**Any coach who has never reffed, but is interested in becoming a ref, will need to shadow an experienced coach who has reffed. You will need to arrange to shadow them during a dual meet, then once you've completed the shadowing, connect with Joe to be added to the roster of refs.
Responsibilities
The task of the Referee is not to "run the meet" but to help officials to conduct the competition in accordance with the rules. The Referee shall enforce all the rules and decisions of the FCSL and decide all questions relating to actual conduct of competition, the final settlement of which is not otherwise assigned by these rules. See page 10 of rules.
#1: You need to know the league rules. Print them out read them, and read them again. Ask about anything you are unsure of.
Arrive to the meet 30 minutes prior to the start of the diving events to allow yourself time to prepare the judges, sheets, coaches, etc.
Obtain sheets from both clubs 15 minutes before meet begins to allow time to review for accuracy and to make sure they comply with the league rules as well as create the dive order for the meet. Tip: have a copy of the rules and the DD list with you to reference while you are reviewing the sheets.
Be confident in judging ability, stay consistent, and remain neutral. Judge the dive for all components (not just height or entry, etc).
Sportsmanship is a code of conduct – first tell the coaches, if not dealt with then you can remove offenders from pool deck.
The ref and master scorer (home club) need to sign the master copy of the dual meet score sheet. You then need to make a minimum of four copies of the master and distribute accordingly: two copies to the swimming score table (one for the home team and one for the away team), one copy each to the home diving coach and home swimming coach. You do not need to submit a photo.
Falling back dive cannot earn more than 3 points regardless of how well it is performed.
You need to maintain a fair range of scoring. For example, if you score a 6 where a dive was performed with split legs, you need to score higher than a 6 for someone who performed with legs together.
