Dual Meet Checklist for Meet Hosts, Coaches and Refs
Score Table Toolkit with sample scoresheet added 6/29.
Meet Hosts: To ensure you are prepared to host a meet and run an efficient score table, determine who from your club is responsible for setting up the pool deck and please make sure it is ready to go in advance of warm-ups. If you don't start/end on time, it delays the start of the swimming events.
Meet warm-ups: 1-hour total.
Home club warms up during the first 30-minute window. Please be fair and make sure you end your warm-ups on time to allow the visiting team their full warm up time.
Visiting club warms up during the second 30-minute window.
Scoring:
1st place: 5 points
2nd place: 3 points
3rd place: 1 point
Not more than two places in an event shall be awarded to members of the same team: If team A wins 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in an event: Team A is given points only for 1st and 2nd place, 5+3 = 8 (i.e. max points/event) . The third place point goes to the highest placed diver on Team B, even if they placed 4th, 5th, 6th, etc. If the opposing team does not have a diver in this event, then no third place point is awarded.
The ref and master scorer (home club) need to sign the master copy of the dual meet score sheet. You then need to make a minimum of four copies of the master and distribute accordingly: two copies to the swimming score table (one for the home team and one for the away team), one copy each to the home diving coach and home swimming coach. You do not need to submit a photo.
The points earned by each club during the diving events will be added to the swimming points earned by each club. The total represents the score for each club.
Safety:
Keeping kids safe is the priority. If someone is not ready to do a dive, they are allowed to pass. Use your judgement.
Unofficial entries:
The number of unofficial divers is limited to 2 per event and should not exceed 8 per team. If you have a circumstance where you will have more than 8 unofficial entries, you must coordinate ahead of time with the opposing coach and obtain their agreement to enter more than the max. No competition shall be scheduled to start before 9:00 am. To accommodate a large number of divers, the two clubs Swim chairs and Diving Coaches may agree to start the Diving competition as early as 8:30 am, in consultation with the two clubs' Swim Coaches and the FCSL Board.
If you are planning to enter the max during a potentially long meet/hot day, consider reducing the number of unofficials for that particular meet and instead enter them in a meet that is a little lighter. This may require you to coordinate ahead of time with the opposing coach.
You will still create an individual score sheet for the unofficial diver.
Referees:
Referees should arrive to the meet 30 minutes prior to the start of the diving events. If a ref is late, call them - contact info will be on the assignments distributed.
Referee payments: The league rules state (Appending XXII): Payment by the home (host) club is expected to be made to the Referee at the end of the Swim/Dive meet. **Chairs/Coaches: if you are hosting a meet it is your responsibility to be sure your club prepares payment prior to the meet so that refs can be paid at the end of the meet. ***Refs: if there is a delay, follow up with club contacts. If you need to escalate lack of payment, contact Joe.
Weather protocol:
Coaches do not have the power to cancel meets, but if as a coach/ref, you feel the weather will endanger meet participants, voice your concerns to your swim chair. The swim chairs of both clubs must agree to the cancellation, and agree upon a date to reschedule the meet.
If a meet is canceled on short notice and the ref has already shown or is already en route to the meet, the ref should still be paid despite the cancellation. If a club has an issue with paying the ref (again) once the meet takes place after being rescheduled, contact Joe.
