Scoring
Q: What is the maximum award for a dive performed without a jump?
A: 3 points. A Falling Back Dive is classified as a Dive Performed Without a Jump.
Q: How many steps is a diver allowed to take in their approach?
A: A diver can take as few or as many steps in their approach as they want; the take-off from the hurdle must be from one foot.
Q: If the diver takes off for the hurdle from both feet, a balk will be declared.
A: The take-off from the hurdle must be from one foot. If a diver's take-off for the hurdle is from both feet, this is a balk. When the Ref declares a balk, the scorers will be instructed to deduct 2 points from each judge's score.
Q: If each club has divers in an event, and one club finishes 1-2-3 in this event, how are the points distributed?
A: C. The 1 point for the third place finish will be awarded to the other team only if they have a diver in the event. The third place finisher will still get the ribbon.
One club cannot sweep all points. The third place finisher will still get the ribbon, but the 1 point for the third place finish will be awarded to the other team, only if they have a diver in that event. Example: In Newfield vs Waveny 12U Girls event, if each club has divers entered and Newfield divers finish 1-2-3 in the event, the Newfield 3rd place finisher would get the ribbon for the event, but the 1 point will be awarded to Waveny. If one club finishes 1-2-3, but the other club does not have a diver in the event, the 1 point for 3rd place is not awarded to anyone.
Not more than two places in an event shall be awarded to members of the same team: If team A wins 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in an event: Team A is given points only for 1st and 2nd place, 5+3 = 8 (i.e. max points/event) The other point for 3rd place goes to Team B, if they have a diver.
