Welcome! Thank you for visiting!
Hello! I’m Farzana Akter Munny, a passionate PhD student of Griffith University in Australia at the Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics (IBG), beginning in intake 2 of 2026, with a solid academic background in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in my Master’s and Pharmaceutical Science in my Bachelor’s from the University of Dhaka. My goal is to pursue impactful research in biomolecular chemistry and translational medicine.
My research interests span gene polymorphism, cancer biology, neuropsychiatric disorders, drug discovery, cheminformatics, and clinical pharmacology. I am deeply fascinated by how molecular and cellular mechanisms contribute to complex diseases and how computational tools can be leveraged to discover innovative therapeutic solutions. During my PhD, I aim to integrate experimental biology and medicinal chemistry with computational approaches to explore disease mechanisms, particularly in cancer and neuropsychiatric disorders, and contribute to precision medicine.
My journey so far includes diverse research roles in molecular biology and bioinformatics laboratories. Notably, I have worked on the association of gene polymorphisms with lung cancer, quantification of serum biomarkers in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and simulation-based identification of novel breast cancer therapeutics. My Master’s thesis explored the phytochemical profiling of Justicia gendarussa and its therapeutic potential against pain, oxidative stress, hyperglycemia, and microbial infections, integrating in vitro pharmacological assays with in silico modeling. It has been published in BioMed Research International (Q2) in 2025. Another work, an ELISA-based project on GAD, was also published in the Journal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis (Q1) in the same year, and multiple projects are under review in different journals. I am excited to further my academic journey and contribute to innovative and interdisciplinary translational research.
Professionally, I served as a Quality Control Executive at Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd., one of Bangladesh’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, where I worked in a cGMP environment, analyzing and validating various drug formulations. In addition, I have gained valuable hands-on training in hospital and industrial settings, enhancing both my research capabilities and clinical insight.
