I remember watching Debbie direct the scene in the last show where Leroy says “Good Bye” to the School of the Arts. In the first couple of takes, Gene just threw it away. Debbie pulled him aside and chastised his lack of emotion and challenged him to be “fierce.” The results are on film. Gene was brilliant."
