Billy Hufsey Defy Magazine Interview The Fire Is Back 2009

It’s rare that someone has the opportunity to have a successful career in two different industries, rarer still for someone to find their true passion and a way to make a living doing it. And it’s even rarer for an entertainer to revive their career when they are on the cusp of turning 50! That rare individual is Billy Hufsey.

Billy Hufsey became an international teen idol on the world-renowned hit series Fame as the singing, dancing and boxing bad boy heartthrob, “Christopher Donlon.” After five successful years, Hufsey transitioned from Prime Time to Daytime television with his portrayal of the character “Emilio Ramirez” on Days of our Lives, which he played into the early 90s.

Billy’s wide-ranging talents and striking good looks have always landed him in the spotlight. Few actors are able to move successfully from one popular role into another. More often they are pigeonholed as a particular character type. That hasn’t been the case for Billy. He has had feature roles in movies (Tomcats, Cold Night Into Dawn, Magic Kid, Zero Tolerance), guest starring roles on other popular hit television series (Married with Children, Webster and The Young and the Restless) as well as starred in numerous musical productions from Toronto to Las Vegas (Tease, Reunion, Dancin’ to the Hitz!, Razzle, Dazzle).

Hufsey dabbled in real estate investment throughout the height of his entertainment career in the 80’s and 90’s. When he lost the “fire in his belly” to continue his acting career, Billy walked away from Hollywood at the peak of his daytime career, moved to Las Vegas, and threw himself headlong into building a successful career there in the mortgage industry. During his eight-year hiatus, Billy created and owned several different companies; a real estate company, a mortgage business, limousine business, and a building/maintenance/landscaping company.

All the while, Billy had dabbled in the entertainment realm and even began to write music again, which was always his first passion. In addition, he found that he was being asked to coach and teach acting and singing to young entertainment hopefuls, thus Image Makers Talent Management, Billy Hufsey’s artist management company, was created. “I want to help others live the dream that I lived,” said Hufsey in a recent interview. “My artist management company was a natural progression that grew out of a desire to help others by utilizing my extensive experience and contacts within the entertainment business; and it has all happened at a perfect time in my life when I can transition back into this industry.”

Through reconnecting with old friends to assist his clients with their entertainment careers, Billy has received numerous offers himself. Within the past year, he was featured in the movie Crazy Girls, starred in the television pilot Son of a Gun; and has just completed a reality series for VH1.

“I feel reinvigorated and thrilled with all of the projects that have been presented recently,” gushed Hufsey. “The odds of getting a second chance at success in the entertainment industry are truly daunting,” continues Billy. “So, I’m having the time of my life right now. The opportunities being presented to me lately are a blessing and I’ve found “the fire in my belly” again for this business.”

Being an actor on a reality series was a huge adjustment for the seasoned veteran, “I had no idea living in a house with six men and a complete production crew would be as much fun as it was in filming VH1’s upcoming series, Confessions of a Teen Idol, says Hufsey. “During the series shoot, I had an opportunity to get back in the studio to record my upcoming new single release, Try, as well as film a music video for Try that will be featured on VH1.com”

“Music is my true passion,” says Billy Hufsey. “My entertainment career began with music and led me to developing my other talents,” he says. “After a successful run at corporate America, my original career path has reignited! I am putting all my energy and focus into my newly reborn career.”
