FALL 24:
This semester I am back at Loma Verde Elementary School in Ms. Vega's 2nd grade classroom! It is an absolute pleasure to work in this classroom with these students. Ms. Vega is an amazing teacher who truly cares about her students. I idolize her and the way she runs her classroom. What's also really special, is because I was a TA last year at Loma Verde in Mrs. Hanley's first grade classroom I have a lot of the same students! Watching these students grow from 1st to 2nd grade is really special. I can see the growth and maturity in these students.
Each week, when students are behaving they are rewarded with 20 minutes of reading. This book is titled "The Wild Robot", the students are very into it. Instead of Ms. Vega reading it aloud, there is a youtube video with a narrator.
The ninja fact master is a timed math activity students complete during their math block. This sheet changes each week with different addition and subtraction math problems. The winner of each week gets a prize out of the sticker drawer. It reminds me of a timed math sheet I used to do in elementary school.
The passport project is one of the main projects all 2nd grade students complete at Loma Verde. Each week the classroom "visits" a specific country. The students learn all about the country. The culture, the food, the people, everything! Students get to even try a food from this country as well as do a art project of something that is very popular in that country.
I was able to spend Halloween in the classroom with my students! Parents came in and set up a bunch of halloween activities for everyone. It was nice to experience a class with no learning and just fun activities. Which is how I remember Halloween when I was in elementary school.
