FALL 23: For the fall 23 semester, I was placed at Loma Verde Elementary School for my field work. I was in Ms. Hanley's 1st grade class, and have been going to her class once a week since the start of the semester. I've learned a lot from this classroom, and have had a blast working with these students. This was also my first time working with ELL students, and it was definetly a challenge but was a great experience. It's going to be hard for me to leave them next semester!
Each week, a student is allowed to bring an item from home that they want to share with the class. The other students even get to ask questions, and explain what they like about each item.
In Ms. Hanley's classroom, each student self drew and painted a portrait of themselves.
Students first trace these sentences in pencil, then use marker.
These sentences are great reminders for all the students! This activity also helps them with ther letters and writing abilites.
SPRING 23: This semester I was still at Loma Verde Elementary school. I was placed in a resource room working with 4 SPED kids, who I got to know very well over the course of this semester. I was with them during their math group, and I got to learn a lot about working with special needs kids. I was also in a 2nd and 3rd combo classroom with Mrs. Pfeifer. This semester and last semester has really proved to me that I want to be a 1st or 2nd grade teacher. Working with these students has been a blast. Mrs. Pfeifer does a great job of allowing her students to feel comfortable in her classroom. She lets her students open up about their culture and has great lesson plans for them, always allowing them to work diligently.
Students in Mrs. Pfeifer's class read this story by Wendy Ewald explaining what part about themselves they love the most. They then answered the prompt "The Best Part of Me". Students were able to write about anything on their body that. they love about themselves.
Mrs. Burt's resource room has a math small group that I observe. In these problems, she gave the students a number in the middle that they must subtract, add, write in expanded form, and write the number out.
