From fun and fellowship,
to volunteerism and service,
to faith formation and worship -
there is a place for you here!
We care deeply about being good stewards of the Earth which God created. We understand caring for our planet is more important right now than ever before. The Green Team is a group of church members who are dedicated to learning about and practicing creation care. Some things the Green Team has done: planted trees and plants around the church grounds; purchased and gave away reusable bags; updated all of the lightbulbs throughout the building; gave away free radon test kits; provided education on the importance of composting and so much more! Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m.
Our congregation extends beyond the building’s walls. Be believe to live in the way of Jesus is to love and serve our neighbors. We are always seeking out ways to be involved with the community and make Muscatine, America, and the world a more loving place, where everyone’s needs are met. Outreach is how we live out our believe that all people are worthy of love, dignity, and respect. Some things the Outreach committee does: collect donations which sponsors a room at MCSA; monthly drives for items needed at MCSA; Muscatine’s Bag of Blessings program; build days with Sleep in Heavenly Peace; serving at the Emmaus Café; drives for donations toward Laundry Love, Veterans, Domestic Violence Shelter, CROP Walk, and more. This group meets quarterly or as needed.
As a congregation of the United Church of Christ, which was the first denomination to openly proclaim God’s love for ALL people, we at Faith are glad to be a presence of acceptance and belonging in Muscatine for ALL people. Our ONA committee was formed in 2019 and we work to spread the word of God’s love. Some of the things our ONA committee has done: host Inherent Worth workshops; sponsored Crossroads Halloween Dances; attended Iowa City’s Pride Festival; held documentary viewings and discussion to educate the community in partnership with Muscatine’s LGBTQIA+ Equality Coalition, and so much more! The ONA committee meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:15 p.m. after adult forum.
Pastor loves to visit with people, but caring for our congregation is truly the work of the community. This team meets quarterly with Pastor to ensure all members and friends know and feel they are loved. This includes sending cards, making phone calls, visiting with others, gathering for meals, meal drop offs, and more. If compassion and care are your gifts, this is the team for you!
Worship is the center of our lives at Faith UCC. Our worship committee works with Pastor and the musicians to plan worship and ensure we consistently provide creative, meaningful, and relevant worship services centered on God. The Worship committee meets on the first Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
This committee works to provide exceptional opportunities for faith formation for all ages. Led by the Christian Education Coordinator, this team explores various ways to foster spaces of learning and growth. Examples of opportunities this group has provided include Wednesday and Sunday Children's Education, Confirmation classes, Adult Forums, AED/CPR training, and Active Shooter Training, as well as High School Youth Group. This Committee meets on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
Our vocal choir practices on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and sings during worship on Sundays at 10:00 a.m., about twice a month. All are welcome to join in raising a joyful noise to the Lord!
Our handbell choir practices on rotating evenings depending on availability. Currently, they have practice on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Handbells play during our Sunday worship at 10:00 a.m. about once per month. All are welcome to participate!
We have two women's groups at Faith that are open to all:
Friendship Circle meets at 10:00 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month from September through May. No meeting in January.
Harmony Guild meets 4 times a year at 6:30 p.m. on a Monday evenings. This year, they meet on October 6th, December 1st (6:00 p.m.), March 2nd, and June 1st (6:00 p.m.). This group also hosts an annual rummage sale each summer.
We are always looking for volunteers to help during worship! You can choose what fits your talents and comfort level. Opportunities include being a greeter (greets members and guests of the congregation and collects pew pads after service), an usher (hands out bulletins, records number of people in worship, and helps with offering), an acolyte (lighting the candles), a liturgist (assists Pastor with the readings), cantor (leads congregation in singing), Children's Message (gives a short 5 minute message to the children in attendance based on the theme and/or readings of the day), refreshments host (makes/provides coffee and snacks for fellowship following worship), tech helper (turns on/off the livestream and makes sure it runs smoothly), and altar care (needed once a month: prepares and then cleans up communion).
We are always looking to add more leaders to our education team! Do you love children? Perhaps volunteering with our Wednesday/Sunday youth classes would be a great fit for you! Interested in a certain topic? Volunteer to lead a book or Bible study! Talk with Pastor to get connected.
Other opportunities to share your gifts and talents: yard work, technology help, crafting (ex: homemade cards, prayer shawls, blankets, etc.), special music, fellowship event coordination, funeral luncheon help, steward memorial gifts, share your art, share spiritual gifts. The opportunities are endless!
Volunteering and our Outreach Committee have an obvious overlap. Join/talk with the Outreach team or Pastor about volunteer opportunities outside the church walls. Many of our members volunteer with the United Way's Reading Mentor Program, spending a half and hour each week reading with a local elementary school class. Faith has also coordinated a build day with our local Sleep in Heavenly Peace chapter so that no child in our county sleeps on the floor. We also volunteer for Emmaus Cafe and MCSA programs. Check out the United Way of Muscatine's volunteer opportunity page or talk share your outreach idea at Faith to turn your vision into reality. We are better together!
