Wednesday evenings are for the youth! From September through May, our Wednesday evenings start at 5:15 p.m. with a free dinner, before moving into some time for music and a lesson, and finishing at 6:30 p.m.
We have also included a similar lesson on Sunday mornings! After the Children's Message in worship, all youth are invited downstairs to our fellowship hall for a snack, activity, and lesson until the end of worship. (all year, no summer break)
At Faith, we offer Confirmation classes to anyone 5th grade or older. From September through May, we meet on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m., but students are always invited to join the younger class for dinner at 5:15 p.m.
We follow a 2 year curriculum: One year we spend our time on the Bible, then we spend the next year on the Church - learning about our denomination, the history of the Church as a whole, and exploring what others believe, so that our youth can begin to think critically about their own faith and decide what it is they truly believe. We also believe learning about other traditions produces well-rounded students who are more accepting and loving of people of all faith backgrounds. The world has always been pluralistic and God asks that we simply love one another, no excuses. We want our confirmands to be prepared to go out into the world with love, open to encountering the Divine in and through all things.
As part of Confirmation, students are also asked to participate in worship, service projects, and at least one retreat. Once students have finished their 2 years and confirmed their desire to fulfill the covenant made in their baptism, they become full members of the congregation with rights to vote, sit on Vestry, etc.
6th - 12th grade Youth Group
We are so excited to be working with other local congregations, as well as congregations from surrounding towns, to create a youth group opportunity for Middle and High School aged youth!
Sanctuary is a safe space where Christ's love is our foundation and building community is our core.
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month from 6-7:30 pm at Shepherd of the Cross Lutheran Church on HWY 38.
The only requirement is age group - you do not have to be a part of any congregation nor do we make you subscribe to a particular faith/belief system. ALL are welcome to join us as we explore our faith and build one another up in love. We hope you'll join us!
Our Adult Forum meets on Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. We will start our year on September 18th with the book: The Bible With and Without Jesus: How Jews and Christians Read the Same Stories Differently (2020) by Amy-Jill Levine and Marc Zvi Brettler.
Amy was born and raised in a Jewish home in a Catholic town in New England. Amy has authored many books and is Rabbi Stanley M. Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace. Amy describes herself as "a critic of antisemitic, sexist, and homophobic theologies." Marc Zvi Brettler is currently the Bernice and Morton Lerner Professor of Jewish Studies in the Department of Religious Studies at Duke University. Marc has published and lectured widely on metaphor and the Bible, the nature of biblical historical texts, and gender issues and the Bible. Marc and Amy co-wrote The Jewish Annotated New Testament in 2011 and is a staple for any who seek to understand the Bible.
On the FINAL Monday of each month, all are welcome to join Pastor for an evening of open discussion from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Meet us the final Monday of the month at The Mississippi Brew!
This is a safe space to come and join others in being curious about spirituality and religion. Bring questions or topics to discuss or just come listen! This is not a space for hard and fast answers, nor is this a space for condemnation, judgment, or hatred. This is a safe space to be compassionately curious and open to the Divine and how God manifests differently in all of our experiences.
We start our discussion by each sharing a theological question we have or just a topic we have been pondering. Once everyone has shared (or passed), we often discuss what we heard repeated the most, or the conversation just flows naturally. This is a low-key space to explore faith and build community.
*We will NOT meet in December. Have a very Merry Christmas!!!
Pastor hosts a Bible Study each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. here at the church building. All are welcome!
We are blessed to be a part of a multi-congregational effort to bring Christian Day Camp to ALL at little to no cost! Youth from Pre-k through Middle School will have a blast learning about God's love! (High schoolers and older: ask about being a volunteer!)
