The City of Dyon was founded after the Cataclysm in the year 2732 from the salvaged hull of the half-built colony starship UNS Inquisitive and the remains of the West Coast's largest commercial spaceport. The City's relative distance from the Epicenter of the Storm and advantageous geographical location shielded by a nearby mountain range, along with much of the commercial spaceport still intact enabled the growth of a large City on the coast in the aftermath of the Cataclysm. The Walls of Dyon were constructed over a period of around five years from the hull of the colony ship welded in with the remains of various other transport vessels and decommissioned buildings before its Containment Field projectors were deployed proper. The event that sparked its transition into a true City was when the group that would later become the energy giant Firmament Corporation repaired and successfully restarted the UNS Inquisitive's reactor two years after the Cataclysm, which enabled the rapid construction of its Walls and the restoration of its urban infrastructure. It was during this time that the Corporation cemented its position in what would later become Dyon, standing on the foundation of the city that would enable it to eventually dominate Dyon's economic sphere and establish its monopoly of energy production.
The construction of its Walls brought in additional refugees from other shelters, further growing its population. As Dyon was built in relative close proximity to one of the Old World's sprawling underground cities, many of the poor and destitute under the UN government emerged from the beneath to settle in Dyon in mass refugee waves that caused its population to surge rapidly. While the City's infrastructure had grown slowly in those first few years that enabled the restoration of the Central Districts surrounding the old Spaceport, the influx of refugees forced the growing Bureau of Civic Maintenance to enact the Fringe Investiture Act, that resulted in the construction of mass housing sectors under the protection of the Walls for those who had lost their homes in the Storm. These buildings were ragged, in comparison. In a rush to construct housing for the refugees, the City's Authority had cut costs on the materials involved and the utility lines sent to the Outer Districts, and ordered their security forces to retreat while they constructed a second set of Walls around the glittering spires that sat at the center of the city. It was in that milling mass of people that the Outer Districts rotted slowly in their gloom while gazing in longing at the radiance in the middle of it all.
The sheltered remains of civilization remain in the Central Districts of Dyon, shielded from the raging Storm and the grinding poverty of the Outer Districts. Those that live in these districts enjoy comfortable privileges and access to the finest of amenities, from fresh crops grown in the City's agricultural district and a responsive Division of the Interior.
A massive structure jutting out near the center of the City of Dyon, and the tallest tower in the entire City that sticks above any of the other highrises in the City. The Spire is the center of Dyon's administration and the home of the Mayor's Office along with the headquarters of the Authority's many Bureaus and Offices. The first floor of the Spire consists of a massive set of interconnected halls that are collectively named the Hall of Authority, and are where its many officials spend their days working. The Spire is reconstructed from the remains of the Spaceport and has been refurbished into a veritable fortress by itself. In the case of the complete failure of the Walls, the Spire with all its arsenal of salvaged Old World weaponry and auxiliary Oneirum shielding would be able to survive any disaster, or so it has been alleged.
A large sprawling set of districts that consist of Firmament Corporation's headquarters, the second tallest tower of Dyon, and the heart of Dyon's energy generation from the UNS Inquisitive's reactor core and its cluster of auxiliary generators. The Quarter holds the Central Districts only industrial districts, with most such infrastructure instead being moved to certain high-security districts outside of the Central Walls in favor of the lower land prices outside.
A second, smaller, set of Walls inside the City's boundaries. These Walls are not built primarily for defending against the Manifestations of the Storm, but rather for the security of its affluent minority from the masses of plebeians in the slums ringing the City. The Bureau of Security's Division of the Interior mans these walls, with far stricter inspections on convoys and individuals seeking to enter without extra documents to prove one's residence in Central.
Largely lawless lands that still remain within the borders of Dyon, but have little to no presence from the overextended Bureau of Security in their reaches. Unwatched by the gaze of the Authority and its people scraping at the hard concrete of the remains of the Fringe Investiture Act, it is no surprise to anyone that the Outer Districts are a lawless mess as the downtrodden struggle to carve their place in the little land that remains safe from the Storm. These lands are fought for and protected by local gangs, small Associations, Carver networks, the fanatics of the Hall, the foreign Yamana Clan, and infested by cells from Halcyon and Third Law, among others. Death is unfortunately a common scene in these places, and a body or two on the streets, though gruesome, is not something too unusual to see and nor would one ever expect the Authority to act upon it. Only the trade roads and the few corporate holdings outside the Central Walls see any form of government security, and the Authority tends to turn a blind eye to most of the happenings beyond the Central Walls. That is, in all cases beyond a proven patent violation. In that case, elite troops are deployed from the garrison to immediately liquidate the offenders, regardless of their location.
A section of the Outer Districts connected to Dyon's sprawling ports. The Walls extend out into the sea in two twin outcroppings that lead deep into the bay as the rest of the waters are guarded by a separated set of seawalls and defensive structures. It is only from here where one can see into the distant gray horizons unobstructed by the towering Walls. These harbors are dominated by fishing companies and ventures that are strictly regulated by the local office of the Bureau of Civic Maintenance. The Harbor Districts also see significant trade with vessels hailing primarily from Yangshan, making these among the more affluent of the Outer Districts. The Harbor Districts have significant influence from the Yamana Clan, who have turned the Harbor District of Shore-ridge into the center of their control since landing in them after their perilous escape following the fall of the Orient Electronics Company.
Massive hydroponic and augmented-growth factories dominate the Agricultural Districts, where the City's food supply is sourced from and sent in bulk amounts to the Central Districts. Little else exists in these districts, but with their place away from the Central Walls, a certain fraction of shipments almost always end up disappearing despite the presence of security details from Civic Maintenance.
The skeleton of an old industrial yard lies revealed to the air in the Kowloon District. Once this place was among the first of the shelters in Dyon's grounds during the Cataclysm due to its extension into the subterranean levels, and now it has grown far beyond its humble beginnings as a cluster of shelters on the walls of the abyssal chasm. A haphazard collection of buildings extend themselves in yearning arms as they cover the massive gash that carves itself deep enough that it can reach the Warrens at its lowest depths. Its people walk on exposed pipes and industrial grates left from a structure that predated the existence of the City itself. Certain businesses lodge themselves in these neon-painted crannies trapped in a deeper darkness than anywhere else in Dyon, profiting from ramshackle attempts at restoring jailbroken Old World fabricators. Homes are so tightly-constructed in this district that they have gradually merged together with the scaffolding of the Old World facility that lies here, in a diverse array of salvaged buildings unregulated by the Bureau of Civic Maintenance. The Kowloon District is the grounds of a power struggle between the Yamana Clan and the Firmament Corporation, the former which seeks to expand their foothold in Dyon's Outer Districts and the Firmament Corporation that seeks to oust its residents to reclaim the facilities nestled within.
The towering building that cuts off the horizon from sight is the Outer Walls, a mess of metal haphazardly welded together and bristling with heavy weaponry built for use between the stars and modified to slay the behemoths that rule the Outside. It is here that the Bureau of Security's Division of the Wall holds station, ever-vigilant for attacks.

Education in the City of Dyon is publicly available to all of its citizens. Even residents of the Outer Districts have access to public schooling funded by the Dyon Bureau of Education, who provide cheap educative services to all interested learners. Education in the Outer Districts is rarely high quality, though, and literacy rates have hit record lows in the slums of the City despite the Authority's efforts.
This is in a stark difference to that of the Central Districts, where the Bureau's schools can be further supported by the "generous donations" of local families, and richer families can pay for their children to attend the prestigious branch of the Vertassin Academy for further studies after graduating from their local institutions.

Dyon happens to be home to a diverse set of media supported by the headquarters of the U-IDOL entertainment company located in its commercial districts. Music and live concert performances are popular entertainment for many in the City of Dyon.
Supported by Onelight Soft Systems' proprietary Network streaming service, popular media from publicly available Old World database records, sports games played between City teams, music radio from Dyon's own companies, and more are all available to anyone with a Network connection, whether it be from Dyon's Oneirum Regulator chip or Onelight's many Terminal devices, provided they pay a continuous monthly subscription.

The Bureau of Security handles much of the City of Dyon's military matters. The Wall Division operates the Outer Walls, whose duty is to protect the City of Dyon from outside threats by handling its Wall garrison forces, prospective citizenship screening, and contraband regulation. The garrison consists of a set of command staff, wall gunners that control the mounted railcannons to annihilate anything too large approaching the Walls, reconnaissance teams dedicated to sighting and evaluating incoming entities, and its liquidation battalions of elite soldiers that deploy from the Wall garrison to personally eliminate threats.
Punitive duty for most Wall Division soldiers is acting as a ground spotter in its reconnaissance teams for verifying whether incoming entities from beyond Dyon's walls were trade Caravans, refugees, or Dangerous Entities due for immediate liquidation. Should those poor spotters ever make an incorrect judgement, it may result in great carnage amongst their ranks, though one must note that the Walls of Dyon have yet to be breached, and such has been true for over forty years.
Soldiers in Dyon's military are granted high wages for their service to protecting the City, a duty that is available to any of the City's residents, which has acted as a great motivator to sending the people of the Outer Districts to the meat grinder in their hopes of rising the ranks and leaving service with a comfortable pension and a guaranteed retirement for their families sponsored in Central.
